2-1/4 c. dates
1 c. granulated sugar
1 c. water - add more if needed
1 c. walnuts, chopped

Dough
1 c. shortening
2 c. brown sugar
3 eggs, well beaten
4 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. soda

Directions:
Directions:
350º, 12 minutes or until lightly browned - Beat shortening and sugar until creamy.
Add eggs and mix.
Add flour, salt, and soda and mix well.
Roll out dough on floured surface. Spread slightly cooled date mixture on the dough. Roll dough and date mixture into a tight roll.
Put onto a pan and cover with waxed paper. Leave in fridge overnite.
Next day, cut dough into 1/4 inch slices and place on an ungreased cookie sheet.
