1 lb. ground beef.
1 onion
1- 28 oz. canned tomatoes
1-28 oz tomato sauce
2 small cans tomato paste (I use the one with Italian seasoning)
1+ T. oregano (use any amount you prefer)
2 cloves diced garlic
1-2 T. sugar (depending on your own taste)

Cook ground beef in a large pot. Drain off grease and add the rest of the above ingredients. Cook for at least an hour.

This is Mom's recipe, I like to use it as a base for my sauce. I like to add hot sausage links and either neck bones or a couple of country ribs for flavor. If I add these I will cook it for 3-4 hours so all the flavors come together.
I loooove oregano so I always add more. Fresh basil also adds some great flavor. At this point I will also add at least a cup of red wine and some mushrooms. I remember when Dad went away on business trips Mom would make this sauce. Dad had ulcers so he couldn't eat this very often. I was very skinny back then but always unbuttoned my pants so I could eat more of mom's spaghetti and homemade sauce!
