1 cup butter, softened
1 cup sugar
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
3 eggs
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cream of tartar
3 1/2 cups flour
FROSTING: 6 TB. butter, 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla, 1/4 cup milk, 4 cups powdered sugar

Preheat oven to 350º. Cream butter, sugar and vanilla. Add eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition. Add baking soda and cream of tartar. Stir in flour. Refrigerate overnight or several hours. Roll out, cut with cutter and bake 6-7 minutes. For frosting: Cream butter and 1 cup sugar. Add vanilla and mix. Add milk and rest of sugar, alternately until frosting is good spreading consistency.
