50 light-colored caramels
5 tbsp. light cream or evaporated milk
1 c. flour
1 c. oatmeal
3/4 c. packed brown sugar
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
3/4 c. melted butter
1 c. milk chocolate chips
1/2 c. walnuts or pecans (optional)

Directions:

Melt caramels and light cream or evaporated milk in double boiler and cool slightly.

Combine remainder of ingredients until butter is dissolved and mixture is crumbly. Press half of the crumbs in 9X13" pan. Bake for 10 minutes at 350º. Remove and sprinkle with milk chocolate chips and if desired walnuts or pecans. Cover with caramel mixture, spreading carefully. Sprinkle with remaining crumb mixture. Bake for 15 minutes, or until golden brown. Cool slightly. Cut while warm.
