These are not particularly fast or made with ingredients you will have on hand, BUT they are Melissa’s favorite and I had to include them.

1 5 oz can evaporated milk
1 14 oz package of caramels
1 package of German chocolate cake mix
¾ cup (1 and ½ sticks) melted butter
1 cup chopped nuts - optional
1 cup chocolate chips

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350

Unwrap caramels.
In top of double boiler (one pan set in another pan that has an inch or so of water in it) stir together 1/3 cup of the evaporated milk and the caramels. (This part takes forever, the unwrapping of the caramels, then the melting) Cook over hot water, stirring often until mixture is smooth, turn off heat.

In a bowl, beat/stir together the cake mix, melted butter, remaining evaporated milk and nuts if you are using them.
Press half of the batter into a greased 13x9x2 pan
Bake for 6 minutes, take out of the oven and sprinkle with the chocolate chips and then pour the caramel mixture over.
Crumble remaining dough over the top and return to the oven to continue baking for 14-18 minutes.
It is done when it is not too wiggly.

These have to cool before digging into them, really.
