3/4 c. butter at room temperature
1/4 c. shortening
1/2 c. brown sugar
1 egg separated *1 egg yolk
1 tsp. vanilla
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/2 c. sliced almonds
6 T. strawberry jam

preheat oven 350º

Line cookie sheet with parchment paper.

In a bowl with mixer on high, beat butter and shortening until shinny - about 2 minutes

Reduce speed to medium, beat in sugar about 2 minutes, should be fluffy.

Beat in yolk and vanilla. Reduce speed to low and add flour and salt.

* In another bowl beat egg white - DO NOT ADD TO COOKIE DOUGH.

Roll dough into balls, coat with egg white and roll in sliced almonds.

Put 1" apart on cookie sheet, Bake 5 minutes, remove from oven and use wooden spoon handle to make indention in center of cookie.

Bake 12 minutes longer.

Immediately spoon 1/2 tsp of jam into each cookie hole.

Cool on wire rack.
