8 oz. pitted, chopped dates
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. boiling water
1 c. sugar
3 tbsp. butter
2 eggs, beaten
2 c. flour (I use white whole wheat)
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. allspice
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
pinch salt
1 c. chopped walnuts

Frosting:
1 c. confectioner's sugar
1 1/2 tbsp. butter
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tbsp. + milk

Directions:
Directions:
Place dates in medium bowl. Sprinkle baking soda over and pour boiling water over date mixture. Set aside to cool.
In large mixing bowl cream: 1 c. sugar, 3 tbsp. butter. Add 2 lightly beaten eggs and mix well.
Sift flour, spices and salt together.

Add date mixture to egg mixture; mix well. Slowly add flour mixture. Finally, add nuts.
Pour evenly into buttered bundt or tube pan and bake 250ºF. for 1 1/2 hrs. Cool cake completely. Combine the last four ingredients making the frosting as thick as you desire. Frost cake or serve a dollop on each slice as it is served.
