2 cups sugar
1 cup shortening
3 eggs
1 cup milk
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon nutmeg
2 teaspoons baking powder
5 cups flour

Directions:
Directions:
Cream together sugar and shortening. Add eggs and then vanilla. Combine flour, baking powder, salt and nutmeg. Add milk and flour alternately, ending with flour. Roll dough on lightly floured surface to about 1/4 inch thick. Cut with any cookie cutter desired. Bake in a pre-heated 350º oven for 10-12 minutes. Frost or ice as desired.

You may also use sour milk to make these cookies, just stir a teaspoon of baking soda into the cup of milk before adding to the other ingredients. This makes a very soft cookie.
