Ingredients:
Ingredients:
2 tbsp olive oil
2 medium onions, cut in half and thinly sliced
1 garlic clove, finely minced
3 1/4 c flour
1 tbsp sugar
1 1/2 tsp baking soda
1 1/2 tsp cream of tartar
3/4 tsp salt
2 tbsp caraway seeds, lightly crushed
3/4 c buttermilk
1/2 plain yogurt( full fat, not non-fat)

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º. In a large skillet over medium heat, saute the onions and garlic in the olive oil for about 25 minutes, or until the onions turn a deep golden color. Cool the onions slightly, then puree in a blender.

Sift the flour, sugar, baking soda, cream of tartar, and salt into a large mixing bowl. Stir in the caraway seed.

Whisk the buttermilk and yogurt together in a small bowl. Make a well in the center of the flour and add the buttermilk mixture and the pureed onions to the flour mixture. Stir together only until mixed. Do not overstir.

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured board and knead until smooth, about 2 minutes. Shape the dough into a loaf about six inches in diameter and 2 1/2 inches high. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Dust top of the loaf lightly with flour.

Bake for approximately 55 minutes on center oven rack until light brown and crusty on the outside. The loaf is thoroughly baked when you hear a "hollow" sound when you tap on the loaf.

Personal Notes:
I've substituted fresh dill for the caraway seed with good results.
