Personal Notes:
Mama always set a nice table when we had company. She used placemats, napkins, napkin rings, good plates, silverware and glasses. I learned from a very young age to set the table properly. But just in case I wasn't clear on Mama's directions, she sent me to Charm School. That's where mothers in the south sent their daughters to learn to be "charming". We learned to walk properly by having a book balanced on our heads, and how to talk, stand, sit, and cross our legs like a lady! We learned how to pick out china patterns, silver services and crystal patterns. But the REAL purpose was so the daughters would do well in beauty contests and marry a rich man. Let's just say that some of us learned better than others!
