3/4 cup shortening
1/4 cup molasses
1 cup brown sugar
1 egg

2 1/4 cup sifted flour
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. ground ginger
1/2 tsp. ground cloves

Directions:
Directions:
1) Cream shortening, brown sugar, molasses, and egg until fluffy.

2) Sift together flour, soda, ginger, cinnamon, and cloves. Stir into molasses mixture.

3) Form in small balls, roll into granulated sugar. Place 2 inches apart on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375º for 12 minutes.
