2 c sugar
2 egg whites
1/4 c water
1/4 c white syrup
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
Directions:
Directions:
Double boiler, let stand and stir for 5 min till sugar dissolves. Put small amount of water in pan. Put double boiler on pan. While water is boiling beat mixture with beater. Finger test for sugar. If you still taste sugar add a T. of water at a time keep cooking and adding water till no more sugar crystal when tasting. Remove from heat and continue beating till stiff peaks. Add 1 tsp. vanilla. Then spread on cake.

Grandma Mohrs recipe. She also said to wipe off sugar around the pan before cooking! Great on angel food cake! Frost cake, add food coloring to left over frosting and decorate cake! We always cut a piece of hard paper or cardboard to put over hole on angel food cake. The birthday person always got this when the cake was cut because it was full of frosting! Ha!
