Directions:
Cream butter. Add sugar gradually and beat until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition. Stir in vanilla. Sift dry ingredients together and gradually add to creamed mixture. (Can divide dough and add food coloring at this time if you want to have colored dough.) Chill thoroughly (3-4 hours or overnight). Roll on well-floured surface to about 1/8 to 1/4 inch thick. Cut into desired shapes. Decorate with colored sugar, etc., using egg white brushed on cookie before decorating. Bake in moderate oven (375º) until done.

Personal Notes:
We made these cookies as kids and now my grandkids are making them. The trick is to keep the dough floured as you are rolling it, so it doesn't stick to the pastry sheet or rolling pin.
