Ingredients:
Ingredients:
2 Tbsp. butter
3/4 cup evaporated milk
2 (1 oz.) cakes chocolate, cup up
2 cups white sugar
1 tsp vanilla
3/4 cup nuts, crushed

Directions:
Directions:
Melt butter in 2 qt saucespan. Use a rubber spatula to bring it up around sides of pan, greasing sides of pan well. Pour milk into pan. Add chocolate and heat slowly, stirring constantly until chocolate is melted and mixture is smooth. Add sugar and stir well to dissolve. Cover pan and bring mixture to a boil slowly. Cook about 1 minute or until sugar crystals are melted down from the sides of the pan. Remove cover and continue gentle cooking without stirring to a soft-ball stage (236º), about 20 minutes. Remove from heat. Let stand without moving until candy is 110º or bottom of saucespan is barely warm to the hand. This will take about one hour. Add vanilla and nuts. Stir beat. Continue beating until it becomes creamy, starts to stiffen, and loses its gloss (about 8 to 10 minutes).

Pour into a greased 8" square pan. Cut while still warm.

Personal Notes:
Mom loved making candy. A lot of these candy recipes are out of one book. This fudge recipe she has noted as not turning out as good for her as the "Skillet Cocoa Fudge" also in this cookbook.

This good creamy fudge is worth every bit of time and effort spent on it. Be sure to follow the making-method faithfully for perfect results.

Candy is always a wonderful fun activity to do with children.
