Mix together 1 cup butter and 2 cups brown sugar. Add 3 eggs. Sift together and add 2-1/2 cups of flour, 1 tsp. each: cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and baking soda, and a pinch of salt. Add 1 tsp. vanilla.

Optional: 1-1/2 cups raisins or 1/2 cup coconut, 1-1/2 cups chopped dates and or 1/2 cup nuts may be added.

Spread in a greased jelly roll pan and bake at 350 degrees for 25 min. When removed from oven and still warm, spread with glaze of 1 cup powdered sugar, 2 tbsp. milk and 1 tsp. of melted butter.
