Directions:
Sift flour and salt together and cut in lard or shortening. Mix egg enough to blend and add milk to make 2/3 cup. Gradually add egg yolk to flour mixture, mixing to make a pastry similar to a pie dough. Roll half of the dough to fit a 10-1/2x15-1/2 inch jelly roll or cookie pan. Sprinkle bottom of crust with crushed corn flakes. Peel and slice apples thinly and place over the corn flakes. Sprinkle apples with the sugar and cinnamon mixture, dot with butter. Roll out remaining dough and place over top, pinching edges of dough together, and make cuts on dough with knife. Beat egg whites stiff and brush on with pastry brush over the crust. Bake 1 hour in hot, preheated oven at 400 degrees. Remove from oven and while hot, frost with following icing:
1 cup powdered sugar, 2 T. water and 1/2 tsp. vanilla
