1 C butter
1/2 C sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla
2 C flour
1 jar (12 oz) apricot preserves
2 egg whites
1/2 tsp almond extract
1 C powdered sugar
1/2 C sliverred almonds

Directions:
Directions:
In mixing bowl, cream butter, sugar and vanilla. Add flour and mix. Pat mixture into a 9-by-13-inch pan. Bake at 350º for 15 to 20 minutes or until just light brown. COOL thoroughly. Spread preserves over crust. In a non-plastic bowl beat egg whites until foamy, then add almond extract and powdered sugar. Continue beating until soft peaks start to form but meringue is still a bit runny. Carefully spread meringue over preserves. Sprinkle almond over meringue. Bake at 375º for 15 to 20 minutes, until delicately browned.
