1/2 c butter, softened
3/4 c sugar
2 eggs
2 c flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 c buttermilk
1 tsp vanilla flavoring
1 c chopped walnuts
3/4 c chopped maraschino cherries

Directions:
Directions:
Pre-heat oven to 350º. Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs and beat well. Sift together flour, baking soda and salt. Add alternately with milk and vanilla. Stir in nuts and cherries. Bake for about 1 hour and 20 minutes, or until a pick inserted in the center comes out crumb free.

Yields one 1-lb loaf.

Good with coffee, as this bread isn't too sweet. Also good toasted and spread with butter or cream cheese.
