1/2 c. butter, 1 1/4 c. brown sugar (packed), 1 egg, 1 3/4 c. flour, 2 tsp. baking powder, 1/2 tsp. salt, 1/2 tsp. ginger, 1/2 tsp. cinnamon, 1/2 tsp. cloves, 1/2 tsp. nutmeg, 1/3 c. chopped pecans, whole pecans for topping.

Heat oven to 375º. Mix shortening, sugar, egg thoroughly. Measure flour after sifting. Blend dry ingredients and stir into shortening mixture. Stir in chopped nuts. Roll dough into 1 inch balls. Place 2 inches apart on greased baking sheet. Place pecan 1/2 on top of each cookie, flattening slightly. Bake for 10-12 min.
