Ingredients: 1 loaf frozen white bread 1 sausage roll (calls for Italian, but Kathy and I like country sausage better) 2 eggs 1/4 tsp basil (fresh or freeze dried works best) 1/4 oregano 1 1/2 c. Monterey Jack cheese 1 T Parmesan cheese

Directions:Defrost bread (Kathy & I take it out the night before and cover with wet cheese cloth on counter). Brown sausage with herbs (can also be done the night before and refrigerated overnight). Cool meat then add 1 egg and Monterey Jack cheese (I have messed this up and used Mozzarella, still tasted great). Roll out dough into a 6X18 rectangle. Spread meat mixture over dough and hand roll lengthwise. Form a circle with dough on large cookie sheet and seal ends (I fold one end into the other and dab with water to seal). Slash or cut at intervals like a coffee cake. Let rise to double the size (about 2 hours). Beat remaining egg and brush on top of dough. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese. Bake at 350º for 30 min. Should be a nice golden brown. Reheats real nice in a 250º for a few minutes to serve later. Makes a wonderful breakfast or appetizer. Although it takes a long time is easy to make and very pretty. |

Notes: Sandy worked for my Mom for years and was a good friend. A lost and found recipe. Mom would make this on holidays. We would beg for it all the time.
