Combine in a large bowl and mix together:

2 1/4 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon.
For cake, sift together flour, salt, baking powder and baking soda in bowl, set aside. In separate bowl, cream together butter, sugar and eggs. Add buttermilk to creamed mixture alternately with dry ingredients. Stir in vanilla.

Pour 1/2 of batter into a 9"x9" pan. Top with 1/2 filling and repeat.


Bake at 350 degrees, 35-40 minutes.

1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ginger
1 cup brown sugar
3/4 cup white sugar
3/4 cup corn oil


Remove 3/4 cups of this mixture to a smaller bowl and add to it:

1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
1 teaspoon cinnamon

Mix well.

To the batter in the large bowl, add:

1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 egg beaten
1 cup buttermilk


Mix to combine - small lumps in batter are OK

Directions:

Pour batter into a well greased 9x13x2 inch pan.
Sprinkle flour nut mixture on top.
Bake in preheated 350 oven until cake tests done, 40 to 45 minutes
Serve warm.
