1/2 cup warm water
2 packages active dry yeast
1 1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup melted butter
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
6 cups all purpose flour

Directions:
Directions:
Dissolve yeast in warm water.
Combine margarine, eggs, and milk to yeast mixture.
Add 1 cup flour, salt, and sugar.
Mix.
Then add remaining flour.
Knead for 8 to 10 minutes.
Allow to rise until double.
Punch down.
Use for coffee cakes, rolls, etc.
Allow to double in size again before baking.

This is Grandma's basic dough recipe. I loved the mornings when she would make coffee cake. She would use this recipe, brush melted butter over the top, and then sprinkle it with cinnamon sugar. It was also the dough recipe for dampf nudeln, which were rolls, served with cinnamon gravy. They were cooked on top of the stove.

I did find some recipes for damps nudeln and included them in the book so the cooking directions would be easier to understand.
