5 cups flour
1 pound shortening
1 tall tin canned milk
1/2 cup warm water
2 eggs
1 1/2 tsp salt
1 pkg yeast
2 tsp baking powder

Directions:
Directions:
Soak yeast in 1/2 cup warm water in which 1 tsp sugar has been dissolved. Set aside for 10 minutes.
Work dry ingredients together as for pastry. Beat eggs. Add milk and yeast mixture. Mix all with dry ingredients. Mix well. Set in fridge overnight.
Roll out small amount at a time, quite thin, on lots of sugar. Cut into squares and fill with desired filling.
Bake in hot oven 375º to 400º until brown.
Filling: Make a thick apple sauce. When cool it's ready to use. Other fillings could be dates, walnuts,raisins, etc.

*I've included this recipe as it looks a lot like something my Mom used to make. So far, it's still on my 'to-do' list.
