4T Flour
3 T Bacon grease (or any meat grease drippings)
1tsp salt
12 oz can evaporated milk

Directions:
Directions:
Melt grease. Add flour a little at a time. Stir vigorously and continuously until all lumps are gone. It should look like a paste. Brown the paste add salt. Keep stirring! You don't want it to scorch. Add evaporated milk and stir, the mixture will thicken. Add water until you reach the desired consistency. Remove from heat.

You can add pepper to taste. I just never could because it made Papaw sick.
