1 1/2 C. boiling water
1 tsp. soda
1 C. chopped dates
1/2 C. shortening
2 beaten eggs
1 C. sugar
1 1/4 C. + 3 Tbsp.. flour

topping:
1/2 C. sugar
1/2 C. chopped nuts
1 small pkg. chocolate chips

Directions:
Directions:
Pour boiling water over dates and soda and cool. Then cream shortening, eggs and sugar. Cool date mixture and add dry ingredients to date mixture then mix with creamed mixture.

Pour into greased and floured cake pan. Top with topping mixture.

Bake at 350 degrees. Bake 35-40 minutes.
