This is a very small batch, you may want to double or triple the ingredients.

Mix thoroughly:

1. c. brown sugar
2/4 c. shortening
1 egg
1/4 c. molasses

Add:

2 14 c. flour
2 tsp. soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ginger

You may have to mix with hands.

Chill dough

Roll into balls the size of a large walnut. Roll in sugar. Bake at 375º 8 - 10 minutes or until tops crack. Don't over cook.
