1½ c. boiling water
1 tsp. soda
1 c. chopped dates
½ c. shortening
2 beaten eggs
1 c. sugar
1¼ c. + 3 Tbsp. flour

topping:
½ c. sugar
½ c. chopped nuts
1 small pkg. chocolate chips

Directions:
Directions:
Pour boiling water over dates and soda and cool. Cream shortening, eggs and sugar.
Cool date mixture. Then sift flour and add to creamed mixture and dates.

Pour into greased and floured 9x13 cake pan. Top with topping.

Bake at 350 degree for 35-40 minutes.
