Heat to boiling:
7 cups milk (1/2 gallon minus 1 cup)
1 cup Karo syrup
Combine with and heat until boils and thickens, stirring constantly:
1 dozen egg yolks or 6 eggs
¾ cup cornstarch
1 2/3 cup sugar
1 cup milk
Remove from heat and add:
6 tablespoons butter
1 tablespoon vanilla

Directions:
Let cool; stirring occasionally.
For cream puffs: whip cream and fold into after cooled.
Substitute cream instead of milk for richer cream.
