2 sticks butter
1 lb ( 2 1/4 cup) brown sugar
dash salt
1 cup light corn syrup
1 (15 oz) can sweetened condensed milk
1 tsp vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Melt butter in 2 qt saucepan. Add brown sugar and salt. Stir until combined. Stir in corn syrup. Mix well, gradually adding milk and stirring constantly. Cook and stir over medium heat until candy reaches 245º- Firm ball stage (I usually heat to about 250º) (takes about 12-15 min) Remove from heat and stir in vanilla. Pour into buttered 9x9 pan. Cool and cut into squares. wrap squares in waxed paper rectangles twisting ends to secure.

For chocolate caramels- add 2 (1 oz ea) squares of unsweetened chocolate after adding condensed milk.
