3/4 cup milk, 1/2 cup butter, 1 egg, 1 cup flour, 1/2 tsp salt, 1 cup gum drops, 1/2 cup sugar, 1 tsp vanilla, 1 tsp baking powder, 1/2 cup chopped nuts

Butter Icing
3 tbsp soft butter, 11/2 cups icing sugar, 3/4 tsp vanilla flavoring, 1/4 tsp almond flavoring, 11/2 tbsp milk.

Cut gum drops in half and soak in 3/4 cup milk.
Cream 1/2 cup butter until creamy. Slowly add sugar, beating until light and fluffy. Add egg and vanilla and beat well. Mix together in another bowl, the flour, baking powder, and salt. Fold in flour mixture to the butter mixture and mix until blended. Add gum drops in milk and nuts. Bake in a greased and floured square pan at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. When cooled ice with the following butter icing recipe and top with finely chopped walnuts. Cut in squares.

Butter Icing:
Cream 3 tbsp butter. Slowly add icing sugar, milk, almond and vanilla flavoring mixing well until smooth and easy to spread. Spread evenly over cookies and top with chopped walnuts or coconut.
