3 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. ground clove
1/4 tsp. ground cardamon
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. sugar
1 egg
3/4 c. molasses

Directions:
Directions:
Stir the dry ingredients gradually until well blended. Cream together the butter and sugar, creaming well, then add the egg and molasses. Gradually add the mixed dry ingredients in until well blended. Cover and ripen for 1 hour. Divide dough into thirds. Roll out 1/3 at a time, 1/8 inch. Put on greased sheets. Bake in 375º, 8-10 minutes. At Christmas, cut into shapes, pipe white frosting on edges.

This recipe was given to my mom (Anne) from my Great Grandma Esther Summers in 1975.

Note from Anne: I remember when Grandma made these and she would pipe white icing around the edges. P.S. These are a crunchy cookie.
