5 lbs butternut squash
5 Northern Spy or Granny Smith apples
1/2 cup butter melted
1 cup brown sugar
2 Tbsp flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp ginger
1tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg

Directions:
Peel and cut squash into 1/2 inch slices. Core apples and cut into 1/2 inch slices. You can leave the peel on or remove as you wish.
In medium bowl, combine meted butter, sugar, flour, salt and spices. Mix until crumbly
Layer 1/2 of the squash in the bottom of a 4-5 quart crockpot. Top with half the apple slices and half of the spice mixture. Repeat layers. Cover crockpot and cook on low for 6 to 7 hours or on high for 3-1/2 hours.

I have used mild flavoured (to not disrupt the flavour mix) olive oil and always use a non-wheat flour. I also reduced the amount of sugar as it was very sweet - good mind you, but it is quite fine with less sugar. Try 3/4 cup and adjust for your taste next time. This dish gets rave reviews at a gathering.
