6 c blackberries (fresh or frozen)
1 1/4 c sugar (divided)
1 tsp baking powder
1/3 c cornstarch
TOPPING:
2 c flour
1 c plus 2 Tbsp sugar (divided)
1 Tbsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1 c milk
1/2 c butter melted
1/4 tsp freshly grated nutmeg
cream or ice cream

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º. Rinse berries, sprinkle with 1 c sugar. Let stand at room temperature for 1 hour. Drain and save juice. Over medium heat cook remaining 1/4 c sugar with cornstarch and add juice till thickened and clear. Let cool slightly then stir in blackberries. Pour in 9x13 in pan.
Prepare topping by stirring together flour, 1 c sugar, baking powder and salt. Add milk and melted butter. Beat with a wire whisk until smooth. Spoon over berries - be sure to spread to the edge to prevent excessive bubbling over. Sprinkle top with 2 Tbsp sugar and nutmeg. Bake 35 to 40 minutes until top is golden brown and filling is bubbling. Remove from heat, cool slightly and spoon into serving dishes. Tope with ice cream.
