1 medium onion sautéed
1 lb. beef roast, round steak, or stew meat
1-2 ham hocks or bone left from baked ham
6 c. water
1 tsp. salt
2 - 15 oz. cans garbanzo beans, undrained
3 c. diced potatoes
1 clove garlic, minced

Directions:
Directions:
Sauté onions and lightly brown beef. If using roast leave whole; if round steak or stew meat is being used brown in bite size pieces. Add water and ham hocks, cover and simmer for 1 1/2 hours. Remove meat from bones and dice skim fat from broth and return meat to broth. Add undrained garbanzo beans, diced potatoes and minced garlic. Simmer for about 15 minutes or until the potatoes are tender.

My mom (Florence Caldwell) has been making this recipe for years.
Great on a cold day, something about the ham and beef cooking together makes it a great tasting broth.
