1/2 c. sugar, 1/2 c. butter, 1/2 cup light molasses, 1 1/2 tsp. white vinegar, 1 beaten egg, 3 cups flour, 1/2 tsp. baking soda, 1/2 tsp. cinnamon, 1/2 tsp. ginger, 1/4 tsp. salt.

Directions:
Bring sugar, butter, molasses and vinegar to a boil. Cool and stir in egg. Add sifted dry ingredients and mix well. Chill dough. Roll 1/4 in. thick on lightly floured surface. Cut into desired shapes. Bake on greased cookie sheet at 375ºF for about 10 minutes. Cool cookies on rack.

This recipe is from an old newspaper clipping. Mom made these every Christmas and would decorate them with little silver sugar balls for the eyes and buttons.
