Ingredients:
Ingredients:
5 - 8 medium sized apples
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 tbsp. brown sugar
1 tbsp. flour
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. allspice
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
5 tbsp. butter
juice of 1 lemon
2 tbsp. milk or cream
**Perfect Pie Crust recipe - you'll need two deep dish crusts
(you can use store bought pie crust in the refrigerated section, but it must be deep dish kind, and not as flaky)

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 400ºF. In a large bowl, add lemon juice and cold water. Core and partially peel apples, leaving some skin on. Slice apples into wedges then chop into 1/2in - 1in pieces. Place chopped apples into bowl of water and set aside.
In a small bowl, mix sugar, brown sugar, allspice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and flour until well combined.
Drain apples leaving them in the large bowl, add dry mixture to apples and stir to coat.
In a large skillet melt 3 tbsp. butter and add apple mixture. Cook on medium heat for about 10 min. Stir often until apples are tender and coated well and juices have thickened. Take off heat and set aside.
On a well floured surface, roll out 1 pie crust and place in deep pie pan. Prick bottom with a fork in several places.
Add apple mixture to pie crust. Cut remaining 2 tbsp. of butter into small pieces and sprinkle over apple mixture.
Roll out another pie crust and lay over the top of the pie, pinching top and bottom crusts together. Cut slits into the top of pie (this is when your inner artist can come out!) Brush crust with milk or cream and sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar.
Place pie on a cookie sheet and bake for 45 min. or until crust is golden brown and inside of pie is bubbling. If pie starts to get too brown, place a sheet of foil loosely on top of the pie.
***Grandma Mildred did not cook her apples before she placed them in the pie crust. She would place the unbaked pie in a large turkey roasting bag, loosely tied and placed it on a cookie sheet. Then she baked it for 45 min. at 400º, then uncovered the pie from the bag and baked it for 35-45 min. at 350º.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
Grandma taught me how to make this pie many years ago. The best advice she gave me about making pies was "practice makes perfect!!"
Jonathan, Red Delicious, or Honey Crisp apples are best!
