3/4 c. shortening
1/4 c. molasses
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 c. sugar
1 egg
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. salt

Directions:
Directions:
Melt shortening over low heat. Let cool. Add sugar, molasses and egg, beat well. Mix dry ingredients. Add to the first mixture. Form into walnut size balls and roll in sugar. Bake on greased cookie sheet 2 inches apart. 375º 8-10 minutes.
Mary's original recipe says to form into 10 balls for big cookies!!
