1 1/2 c. water
2 c. raisins
1 c. shortening
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. allspice
1 tsp. vanilla
2 c. sugar
3 eggs
4 - 4 1/2 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1 c. nuts

Directions:
Simmer the raisins in the 1 1/2 cups water for 5 minutes. Save 1/2 cup of the raisin water. Mix the eggs in with the shortening. Add the sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, vanilla, and baking powder. Mix the baking soda in with the raisin water. Alternately add the flour and liquid into the mixture. Add the raisins and nuts. Chill dough. Grease baking sheet and roll into balls and put on sheet. Bake at 400º for 10 minutes.
