3 medium onions
1 bud garlic
1-lb. ground beef
3 tbs. salad (or shortening
2-3 tbs. chili powder
3 bay leaves
1 tbs. salt
3 c. cooked tomatoes (or juice)
3 c, water
2 c. dried pink beans

Directions:
Directions:
Chop onions and garlic. Saute slowly with meat in hot salad oil in a heavy frying pan until meat separates, stirring constantly. Add seasonings, strained tomatoes and water. Cook slowly 2 hours, stirring occasionally. Pick over and wash beans. Cook slowly in covered 3 - 4 quart kettle until tender 2 - 3 hours. Add more water as needed to keep beans covered with liquid. Combine the 2 mixtures and let set several hours or overnight. Heat when ready to serve.
