2 cups softened butter
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
5 cups all-purpose flour
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt

Directions:
Pre heat oven to 375º. Butter cookie sheets. Cream butter and sugar in a large mixing bowl until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Combine flour, baking soda and salt in a separate bowl. Gradually add flour mixture to butter mixture; mix well. Divide dough into fourths. Roll out 1/4 of dough at a time on lightly floured surface to 1/8 inch thickness. Keep remaining dough refrigerated. Cut rolled dough into desired shapes with floured cookie cutters. Place cookies 1 inch apart on Buttered cookie sheets. Bake 6-8 minutes or until lightly browned. Transfer cookies to wire racks to cool completely. Decorate as desired. Store in a cool place in air tight containers up to 1 month. Can be frozen up to 3 months.
