2 cup warm water
1/3 cup sugar
1 yeast cake
2 tsp. salt
3 rounded T. shortening
5 to 51/2 cups flour

Directions:
Directions:
Mix water and sugar; break yeast cake in water and sugar and let stand for 10 minutes. Put 3 cups flour, salt and shortening in yeast mixture. Beat well. Add the rest of flour and knead for 5 minutes. This should be soft dough. Put in greased bowl and cover. Let rise 11/2 to 2 hours or until light. Take half of dough and roll on floured board 1/4 inch thick. Cut with cookie cutter or cut with sharp knife in 2 or 3 inch squares and fry in deep fat until brown and turn and brown on other side.

Serve while hot. Very good with jelly or jam. Put rest of dough in covered container and refrigerator to roll and cook as needed.
