4 medium sized tart apples (I use Honey Crisp) Sliced. (about 4 cups)
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup oat meal (can use quick cooking type)
1/3 cup softened butter
3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
3/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 cup pecan halves (optional)
vanilla ice cream if desired

Directions:

Heat oven to 375º F. Grease bottom and sides of 8 inch square pan with shortening.

Spread sliced apples in pan. Mix remaining ingredients together in a medium bowl until well blended. Sprinkle over the apples. Top with pecan halves if desired.

Bake about 30 minutes or until topping is golden brown and apples are tender. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream!
