1 1/2 c powdered sugar
1 c butter, softened
1 egg
1 t vanilla
1/2 t almond flavoring
1 1/2 c flour
1 t soda
1 t cream of tartar

Directions:
Directions:
Cream together sugar and butter. Mix in egg, vanilla and almond. Sift dry ingredients together then add to cookie mixture. Refrigerate dough 2-3 hours before baking to chill dough. When ready to bake, roll out dough 1/4", cut and bake for 7-8 min at 375º. Frost with powdered sugar icing and decorate.

At Christmas we would use holiday shaped cookie cutters and decorate these cookies. It is one of my fondest memories. After icing them with powdered sugar frosting the Christmas tree got green sprinkles and a red hot star on top. The reindeer was plain white but had a red hot nose. The snowman was also plain white with red hot buttons. And the Santa was red sprinkles.
