1 cup soft shortening
1 ½ cups sugar
2 eggs
2 ¾ cups flour
2 teas cream of tartar
1 teas baking soda
½ teas salt
1 teas vanilla
1 bag chocolate stars

Directions:
Directions:
Cream sugar and shortening thoroughly. Add eggs and blend well. Mix flour with cream of tartar, baking soda and salt. Add to creamed mixture. Roll into balls the size of a small walnut. Place about 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 400 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes or until lightly browned but still soft. Cookies puff up at first but then flatten out. Put chocolate star in center of cookies as soon as they are taken from oven.

Grandma Patterson always had these when we went to her house when I was young. (Hence the name Grandma cookies.) They were my favorite. I would save the star for last.
