Meatballs:

2# ground beef
1 cup cracker crumbs
2 beaten eggs
1/2 cup water
1 onion, diced
salt and pepper
salad oil for frying

Sauce:

1/4 cup salad oil
3 medium onions, diced
3 cloves garlic, minced
2 (28-oz) cans whole plum tomatoes (7 1//2 cups)
3 (12-oz.) cans tomato paste
1 1/2 cups water
2 bay leaves
oregano
salt and pepper

2 (7-oz.) packages spaghetti

Mix meatballs. Form meat into balls, brown in salad oil and remove. Fry onion and garlic. Add remaining sauce ingredients and simmer 3 hours. Forty-five minutes before serving, add meatballs to sauce. Cover and cook slowly. Cook spaghetti separately in time for serving. Before serving, crumble about 5 cooked meatballs in the sauce. Serve with grated parmesan.

I have modified this recipe to make 3 times the original sauce recipe, which was just enough to cover the meatballs.
