2 lb ground beef
1/2 c. Italian style parmesan cheese
1/4 c. oil (for browning)
1 clove garlic, cut fine
1/2 bottle dried basil
salt and pepper to taste
8 slices bread-soaked and mushed in water
4 eggs (or 3)
4# 2 cans tomatoes (crushed)
2 cans tomato paste

Directions:
Directions:
For meatballs, combine meat, eggs, cheese, garlic, basil and soaked bread in large bowl. Shape into meatballs, and brown in oil over medium high heat in large skillet. In large pot, add crushed tomatoes and paste.
Simmer tomatoes and balls very slowly for long time until cooked down.

On Basil: Half a normal dried spice bottle- McKormick, Spice Classic, etc. I'm sure you can make the red sauce with fresh tomatoes, or canned--and use sauce too. Just cook it down and it will cook the browned meatballs through. Bill was married to Pat and full-on Italian, a rarity in Escanaba! They moved to Esky from Sault ste. Marie.--ed.
