3/4 cups shortening (part butter)
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
colored sugars for decorating

Directions:

400 º oven

Mix shortening, sugar, eggs, and flavoring thoroughly. Stir sifted flour, baking powder, and salt together; blend in.
Chill at least 1 hour.

Rolldough1/8" thick on lightly floured board. Cut with cookie cutters. Place on ungreased baking sheets. Sprinkle with decorative sugars. Bake 6 to 8 minutes, or until cookies are a delicate golden color.

Growing up, the Christmas season would officially start when Uncle Dino and Aunt Elaine delivered their Christmas cookie baskets. It was always wrapped so pretty with a beautiful bow on top. It was filled with an assortment of delicious cookies and goodies. My favorites were the sugar cookies shaped like Christmas trees or bells and the fudge! This is my interpretation of those sugar cookies that I remember from that thoughtful holiday gift!
