2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 Tbsp. butter
1 Tbsp. shortening
7/8 c. sweet milk
2 Tbsp. brown sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
3 or more tart apples, peeled and chopped fine

Sauce:
1 c. sugar
2 Tbsp. butter
2 Tbsp. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
2 c. hot water

Directions:

Mix together flour, baking powder and salt. Cut in butter and shortening. Add milk. Stir until moistened. Roll out like pie crust into rectangle. Sprinkle brown sugar and cinnamon over dough. Top with chopped apples. Roll up like a jelly roll. Pinch edges together. Cut into 1" - 1 1/2" slices (like cinnamon rolls). Arrange in cake pan--cut side down.

Make sauce: Mix flour and sugar together. Add salt, butter and hot water. Bring to a low boil and cook 3 minutes.

Pour sauce over arranged slices. Bake at 350º about 35 minutes.

I never knew my Grandma Ella Zimmerman but I was always told she was a wonderful cook. This is one of her recipes that she served when hosting company. I think of her every time I make it.
