For cookies:
4 c. flour
1 c. shortening or margarine
2 eggs
1 ½ c. sugar
½ c. sour cream
1 tsp. vanilla
dash of salt

For icing:
1 – 3 oz. package cream cheese (let set at room temperature to soften)
2 tsp. vanilla
½ stick butter or margarine
dash salt
¾ lb. box powdered sugar
milk – as needed

Make cookies:
Mix altogether. Flour counter and roll out dough. Cut shapes as desired.
Bake at 350° for 10-12 minutes or until edges are light brown.
Ice cookies when cool.

Make icing:
Blend using a small amount of milk to get a creamy, smooth texture. Add food coloring and sprinkles as desire.

This is my favorite sugar cookie recipe. It was given to me by the mother of one of my students at Williamsville Elementary School in the early 1980’s.
