¾ Cup Flour
¼ teaspoon salt
1 Cup Sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
6 eggs, separated (be very careful not to get ANY yolk in whites)
2 squares bitter chocolate, shaved
1 teaspoon vanilla

Filling:
2 scant cups of milk (a cup minus a tablespoon)
1/3 cup sugar
1/3 cup flour
¼ teaspoon salt

1 Cup butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 Cup powdered sugar

Cake:
Beat egg white stiff—not dry. Gradually add sugar and chocolate. Beat yokes. Fold yokes and vanilla into whites. Fold in dry ingredients. Bake in 3 greased 9” or 2 greased 10” round pans at 350° for 20 – 30 minutes. (Cake is done when it springs back when lightly touched in center. Be careful not to over cook.)

Filling:
Cook first 4 ingredients as custard and let cool.
Cream together next 3 ingredients.
Add custard and mix well. Spread between, on top and on sides of layers.

Sprinkle top and sides with coarsely ground salted nuts. Let set overnight in refrigerator before serving. Keep in refrigerator.
